Ubiquicom

Ubiquicom Locator is the central product of the Ubiquicom portfolio; it is the platform infrastructural software for real-time positioning in areas covered by Wireless LAN (WiFi).

Provided with “open standard” interfaces, Ubiquicom Locator provides upper layer applications the localization functions to track standard WiFi devices and Ubiquicom Tags within the coverage network.

Unlike most positioning software currently on the market, Locator does not require any structural alteration to the existing network, and is compatible with the WiFi network infrastructures (Access Points) by ANY vendor and virtually any device working under a WiFi coverage, therefore allowing:

• Great integration potential with both current and future WLAN platforms and related applications
• Optimisation of resources invested in WLAN infrastructures, which are not solely for the purpose of communication, but have an ulterior use as positioning systems
• Broad compatibilities between the possibilities offered by wireless broadband communication devices within WLAN infrastructures, and information regarding these same devices, and therefore the object/individual carrying it.

In addition to the standard WiFi communications functions and without any structural alteration to the existing network, Ubiquicom Locator allows for the tracking and monitoring of:

• users equipped with appliances such as a Portable Terminal, Laptop, Tablet PC, PDA or WiFi Phone
• assets equipped with low cost tags acting as sensors, activators, I/O interface (Ubiquicom Tags)

allowing:

• to work on distances considerably superior to those typical of RFID
• to integrate and interoperate with other presence and positioning technologies
• high efficiency gains in operations which have up to now been handled manually and are therefore generally prone to human error

The modular architecture and open standard interfaces which are at the core of Locator’s design concept allow, furthermore, a smooth integration and synchronization with any other platform software.

Designed on the criteria of modularity, scalability and reusability, Ubiquicom Locator has been created as the point of reference for RTLS systems (Real Time Location System) based on WLAN, with the possibility of interfacing with RFID systems (Radio Frequency Identification) and GPS (Global Positioning System).
